Dr. Berti is a
Board-Certified (ABNS) neurosurgeon who practices adult and
pediatric Neurological Surgery. He specializes in minimally-invasive
and complex spine surgery, microsurgery and stereotactic
radiosurgery for brain and spine tumors, arterio-venous
malformations, and trigeminal neuralgia. He is experienced in
neuromodulation therapies for the control of intractable, chronic
pain, and has been a pioneer in the use of CyberKnife and Gamma
Knife technologies in Florida and abroad.
Dr. Berti was born in Lima, Peru, and received his medical degree at
the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos’ San Fernando School of
Medicine. Founded in May 12, 1551, it is the oldest university in
the Americas, and one of the oldest universities in the world. Dr.
Berti was trained as a pediatric neurosurgeon in Peru by Dr. Manuel
Pizarro, and then moved to the United States in 1974 to complete his
neurosurgical internship year at Northwestern University in Chicago,
IL under Dr. Anthony Raimondi. He completed his Neurosurgical
Residency Program at the University of Miami-Jackson Memorial
Medical Center in Miami, FL under the Chairmanship of Dr. Hubert L.
Rosomoff, and Professor Barth Green. He was appointed Chief Resident
in his final year of residency.
Following his training, Dr. Berti joined the medical staff of Cedars
Medical Center and opened the Miami Neurosurgical Center in 1981.
Dr. Berti was appointed Vice Chairman of Surgery at Cedars from 1997
to 1998 and Chairman of Surgery from 1998 to 2000. He was also
appointed Chairman of the Operating Room Committee for Miami
Children’s Hospital in 1985, among other hospital administrative
duties, all the while maintaining a healthy private practice. He is
currently the Chief Executive Officer of the Miami Neurosurgical
Institute.
Dr. Berti operates in Lima, Peru, where he founded and directs the
“Instituto de Neurocirugía, Neurología y Rehabilitación” (INNER), a
neuroscience clinic and rehabilitation center.
Radiosurgical and Non-invasive Specialty:
Dr. Berti has practiced Gamma Knife surgery since 1994. He was the
pioneer of CyberKnife technology in Florida, assisting in the
opening of CyberKnife Center of Miami in 2003. He helped Mercy
Hospital establish its CyberKnife Institute in 2010 and was Medical
Director until 2013. He has performed over 3,000 radiosurgeries on
patients with brain tumors, spine tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, and
arterio venous malformations (AVMs), and continues to stay on the
forefront of this emerging field.
He maintains international ties with INNER, where he practices his
philosophy of prevention and minimally-invasive procedures and
emphasizes rehabilitation for his patients with holistic,
well-rounded treatments as inspired by the philosophy of his mentor,
Dr. H. L. Rosomoff.
Affiliations and publications:
Dr. Berti has surgical privileges at the University of Miami
Hospital, South Miami Hospital (a Baptist Health System Hospital),
Palmetto General Hospital. He has also served as Chief of
Neurosurgery, Chief of the Department of Surgery, and as member of
the Board of Cedars Medical Center. He has been Voluntary Faculty
Member of the Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Miami
School of Medicine from 1980 until 2013. His affiliation with all
these hospitals affords his patients flexibility in choosing
locations for care.
Dr. Berti is also an international lecturer who regularly hosts and
presents at symposia around the world. The latest Symposium was done

field of neurosurgery and politics. An insatiable traveler, chef de
cuisine, and musician, Dr. Berti is a humanitarian committed to a
number of causes. He founded and donated the Neurosurgical Intensive
Care Unit at the former Cedars Medical Center (now the University of
Miami Hospital. He also trained a network of over 60 physicians from
Central and South America in tutorial program in Miami, FL.
Dr. Berti has co-authored two books with provocative proposals for a
better world. He is currently a Past President of the Peruvian
